Prior to joining Detroit Public Schools Community District, Stephen was hired as a Special Agent by Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division in 1983 and retired after a 34 year career. From 2000 through 2011, Stephen was the Public Information Officer where he acted as a liaison between IRS CI and other government bodies, private organizations, and the media, which included being a Press spokesperson.

Stephen also developed the national one-day workshops “Adrian Project” and “Adrian Jr.,” designed to expose college and high school students, through an interactive learning experience, to a fraud investigation through the eyes of an IRS Special Agent.

Stephen concluded his last three years of his career as a Supervisory Special Agent managing investigations involving OCDETF, Identity Theft, Human Trafficking, and Asset Forfeiture, among other investigations.

Over the years, Stephen has been recognized for his service by being awarded the Beta Alpha Psi’s National Business Information Professional of the Year, National IRS CI Special Agent of the Year, and IRS CI Chief’s Award for the “Adrian Project.”
