About our Speaker:  Randi Olson is a Certified Fraud Examiner and Forensic Accountant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). As a Forensic Accountant for the FBI, she provides financial intelligence to Special Agents and the Assistant United States Attorney’s to further the investigative strategy for a variety of federal violations such as public corruption, money laundering, wire fraud, bankruptcy fraud, identity theft, and mortgage fraud.

Ms. Olson earned a Bachelor’s of Administration in Accounting Fraud Investigation from Davenport University in 2012 and a Master’s Degree in Accounting and Finance from Walsh College in 2018.

Ms. Olson started her accounting career as a bookkeeper for a small aerospace company in 2012 and was promoted to controller within the first year. As a bookkeeper and controller, Ms. Olson learned how to apply basic accounting principles to make journal entries, reconcile inter-company accounts/transactions, and to prepare the trial balance and financial statements. These skills were beneficial to preparing for a career with the FBI.

Ms. Olson was hired as a forensic accountant/auditor for UHY Advisors in 2015, where she learned how to read, interpret and audit financial statements, and other valuable skills to prepare her for a career with the FBI. She continued to pursue her forensic accounting career and was hired as the forensic accounting manager for the CPA firm, Rehmann, in 2017, where she stayed until she was hired by the FBI in 2018.

Ms. Olson was also a volunteer firefighter for the City of Troy and an auxiliary police officer for the City of Hazel Park from 2012 to 2018. Her diverse experiences as a volunteer firefighter and police office provided valuable skills and knowledge to help prepare for a career in the FBI.
